Designing your documents
Open Settings → Document templates, pick a document type and choose Design on a template card. The designer lays a document out in three bands (header, body, footer). Each band holds rows, and each row is a 12-column grid that blocks sit on.
Start from a layout
Section titled “Start from a layout”The first time you open a template you can pick a starter layout: Classic, Modern, Minimal, or, for tax invoices, Classic tax invoice. Every starter keeps the blocks a valid document needs, so you can change anything afterwards. Applying a starter can be undone with Undo.
Add and arrange blocks
Section titled “Add and arrange blocks”- Click a block in the left list to add it to the body, or drag it onto a band.
- Drag a block by its handle to move it. Drag the right edge, or use + and −, to change how many columns it spans.
- Blocks that are required on the document (such as the totals on a tax invoice) are marked with a lock and cannot be removed or hidden.
- Some blocks need room to print: line items need the full width and totals need at least 7 of the 12 columns. The designer stops you shrinking them below that.
- With a block selected, the arrow keys move it, Delete removes it, and Ctrl+Z / Ctrl+Y undo and redo.
Change how it looks
Section titled “Change how it looks”Select a block to set its text colour, background, font size and bold. Select nothing (or choose Whole template) to set the brand colours, fonts and logo height. Colours always come from the template palette, so changing a palette colour restyles every block that uses it. If a palette colour makes text hard to read, the panel shows a contrast warning.
Preview and publish
Section titled “Preview and publish”Use Side by side or Preview at the top of the designer to see the real PDF with sample data. Your edits are saved as a draft automatically. Publish from the template list when you are happy. Quotes already sent and invoices already issued keep the design they went out with.
Take the tour again
Section titled “Take the tour again”Select the ? button in the designer to replay the guided tour at any time.
